Head of Oscar Wilde by Eduardo Paolozzi, 1998

Head of Oscar Wilde

Apparently he sculpted this one back in the 1990s but it never got cast until 2024, using a small maquette he'd given years earlier to someone who lived nearby. When it finally went up, the story got messier — a descendant of the writer it depicts called it 'hideous' in the press. Not everyone locally seems thrilled either.

Erisava: Why does this head look sliced up — did something go wrong?

Twenty-six years between finishing it and finally getting it cast — that's a long wait for one head.
