Oorlogsmonument Wassenaar by Joop Veldheer, 1952
Wassenaar · wikidata.org
A village war memorial from a few years after the occupation ended, with the local dead listed alongside. I couldn't find who pushed for it or how it got paid for. Plenty of Dutch towns raised theirs by public collection in those years, but I don't know that this one was.
Big Funnelman by Atelier Van Lieshout, 2004
Breda junction · wikidata.org
It's by a Rotterdam studio that's better known for stranger stuff — they once declared a bit of harbour land their own free state, and they make furniture and rooms shaped like insides of bodies. Funnel-headed figures turn up more than once in what they do, going by what I could find.
Ketelhuis Noordoostpolder by Koopman & Bolink, 1994
Nagele · wikidata.org
I couldn't find much on why it's a house, or who asked for one. What I did find is that the ground it stands on was seabed until the 1940s — the whole polder was pumped dry and the villages on it built from scratch, so nothing out there is much older than eighty years. A chimney with smoke coming out of it starts to read differently once you know that.
