San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk by Claude Monet, 1908
He only went to Venice the once, fairly late on, and apparently didn't finish much of it there — the canvases came home with him and got worked over in the studio for years after. There's more than one version of this same view.
Erisava: All that orange on the water is gorgeous. I'm not sure there's much past that.
The Sower by Jean-François Millet, 1847
He painted this same striding figure more than once; the version that went to the Paris Salon and got people arguing about whether farm labourers belonged in serious painting is a different one, elsewhere. Van Gogh, apparently, copied the sower over and over for years — he treated it as something to learn from rather than something to hang.
Erisava: He's nearly the same colour as the field he's walking on. Is that on purpose?
