He apparently spent decades loudly declaring himself a genius to anyone who'd listen and got nowhere — until Duchamp, of all people, picked him out of an exhibition and started championing him.
Erisava: Never heard of him. Is he famous or really considered a genius?

The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne by Leonardo da Vinci, 1511
Someone apparently kept coming back to this same grouping - grandmother, mother, child - for something like twenty years without ever quite finishing it. An earlier version reportedly pulled crowds for two days straight when it first went on public show.
Erisava: Parts of this were clearly never finished, and nobody seems to mind.

Mountains at Collioure by André Derain, 1905
According to Wikipedia, this was painted right alongside Matisse in the same fishing village - supposedly part of the summer that kicked off Fauvism.
Erisava: This is too much color for one hillside, and I can't stop looking anyway.
