He apparently spent decades loudly declaring himself a genius to anyone who'd listen and got nowhere — until Duchamp, of all people, picked him out of an exhibition and started championing him.
Erisava: Never heard of him. Is he famous or really considered a genius?

Someone apparently kept coming back to this same grouping - grandmother, mother, child - for something like twenty years without ever quite finishing it. An earlier version reportedly pulled crowds for two days straight when it first went on public show.
Erisava: Parts of this were clearly never finished, and nobody seems to mind.

According to Wikipedia, this was painted right alongside Matisse in the same fishing village - supposedly part of the summer that kicked off Fauvism.
