The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse, 1888

This one's based on a Tennyson poem, and apparently the same painter came back to this character three separate times, decades apart.
Erisava: Ironically, this is over a century old and looks AI-made.

Summers by a lake in the Austrian countryside are where these came from — square canvases, a whole stack of them, a break from the portrait work that paid. He'd apparently pick a view through a hole cut in card rather than just look at what was in front of him.
Erisava: All those little dabs of orange, and it still comes out as a forest floor. I'd hang it.
Mill-Race by Jonas Lie, 1903

A mill-race is the channel that carries water to a mill wheel — I had to look that up. From what I've read he made his name painting working places like this, canals and quarries and construction, when everyone else wanted pretty ones.
Erisava: It's brown on brown on brown, and I'd still hang it.
Autumn Flower by Paul Klee, 1922

I couldn't find much on this one specifically — from what I've read he turned out hundreds of small pieces around this time, sometimes several in a week, which seems like an unbelievable pace. If anyone knows more about this one, I'd love the story.
Erisava: Are these flowers meant to be dying, or is that just me?
